Worse movies were made in 2014, but nothing so mediocre spawned so much follow-up. Annabelle takes itself far too seriously, mistaking itself for a psychological slow-burn in a cold molasses first act when it should have spent ore time fine-tuning to the build up to a half dozen creepy moments in the back half of the movie that fell flat for clumsy execution.
